The PatchMeister v1.0c Release Disk
-----------------------------------
Installation
------------
. The PatchMeister will install itself on the drive of your choice.
It will create a directory called "The PatchMeister" on that drive,
and will place two (2) drawers within that directory: DRIVERS to
store all of the Driver templates, and HELP to store all of the help
text files. However, if you want to move the help files to another
directory, use the AmigaDOS ASSIGN command to assign PMHELP: to
the directory containing the help text.
Triple Play Plus Owners!!
-------------------------
. The following pertains to the Accessory version of The PatchMeister.
If you are using a Patch Bay, keep in mind the fact that all Program
Changes intended for your Patch Bay will be sent through Triple Play
Plus MIDI Out #1. The MIDI Out ports that you specify in `The
PatchMeister' window are only used for the SysEx communication with
your synth. Communication with your Patch Bay is always done through
Triple Play Plus MIDI Out #1.
New Drivers
-----------
. The following Drivers are in the process of being created:
Alesis D4 Korg Wavestation Yamaha TX802
Korg 03/RW Korg Wavestation Ex Yamaha SY77
Korg DS-8 Roland D-70
If you would like to Beta test any of these Drivers, please contact
us at (404) 377-1514. Also, if you would like to share any of the
Drivers that you have created, give us a call!
Save yourself a Tech Support Call!
----------------------------------
. SPX90 Owners - The SPX90 has a MIDI In and a MIDI Thru Port. The MIDI
Thru can be changed to a MIDI Out by removing the outer
casing and flipping the toggle switch that is located
near the MIDI Ports. The PatchMeister will only work
with the SPX90 if its MIDI Thru has been changed to a
MIDI Out!
. Proteus Owners - The Proteus modules have an assignable ID number that
is located in the Master menu. The S-Ch channel in The
PatchMeister window must be equal to Proteus ID number
plus 1.
. Synth not responding? - Make sure that your synth is not ignoring SysEx
messages. Most synths have settings to enable
and disable SysEx communications.
. SysEx sent is not received? - Make sure your synths Memory Protection
has been turned off.
New Features
------------
A few features have been added to The PatchMeister that do not appear
in the manual.
. A `Sort Bank' option has been added to the Bank Menu. You can sort
your banks by patch name or by patch search key.
. The Settings Menu now includes a `Catalog' option. Use of this menu
item will help simplify the process of assigning search keys to all of
your patches. When the `Catalog' option is checked, the Bank item
that you select with the Bank window's WAND will be sent to your synth
before the requester that allows you to enter a search key has been
opened. This will allow you to audition the sound while you are
determining the search key. If you wish, you can use the `Catalog'
option along with the Settings Menu `Auto Audition' option.
. The `Save Patch List' and `Transfer Patch List' menu items have been
changed so that you may insert your bank's patch names beginning at a
specific location in the Patch List. If a bank in your synth responds
to Program Change commands 65 through 128, simply specify a starting
point of 65 (at the prompt) when you create its Patch List.
Also, if you choose an existing file when saving a Patch List, you can
combine Patch Lists for different banks into one Patch List. For example,
assume Bank A responds to Program Change commands 1 through 64. Create a
Patch List for Bank A starting at position 1. The file will be saved
without patch names in positions 65 through 128. Now, assume Bank B
will respond to Program Change commands 65 through 128. When you are
asked to select the name of the Patch List file, select the Patch List
file that you just created for Bank A and then select a starting position
of 65. The resulting Patch List will contain the patch names of Bank A
in positions 1 through 64 and the patch names of bank B in positions
65 through 128.
. As mentioned in the manual, pressing the <ESC> key will send All Notes
Off commands on each of the 16 MIDI channels. This version of The
PatchMeister adds the capability to send individual Note Off commands
for all 128 notes on each of the 16 MIDI channels. To do this, simply
hold down the <SHIFT> key while pressing the <ESC> key.
. New capabilities have been added to the Driver Creator window:
You may enter more than one command on the FIRST and LAST command
lines. Use a double-slash to separate each command. For example,
F0 43 20 09 F7 // C0 00.
The File Size string gadget has been moved to the right of the cycle
gadget that specifies whether or not the File Size is `FIXED' or `MAX'.
The text for the `FIXED' or `MAX' cycle gadget has been shortened to
`F' or `M'.
A `Packets' string gadget has been added to the Driver Creator window.
Use this string gadget to specify the number of SysEx packets that
will be returned when the command to `Get From Synth' has been sent.
More than likely, the `Packets' string gadget will be set to one (1).
This string gadget is ignored when processing Roland synths.
Additional name formats will appear in the NAME FORMAT cycle gadget
to handle decoding patch names for the Proteus modules and the DPM-3.
Several more options have been added to the NUMBER FORMAT cycle
gadget:
A00 ->A99: A00 thru A99, B00 thru B99, etc.
A11 ->A18: A11 thru A18, B11 thru B18, etc.
A01 ->A16: A01 thru A16, B01 thru B16, etc.
Two (2) more options have been added to the HANDSHAKE cycle gadget:
`Bank items use -P' and `Roland RQ1 Bulk'.
BANK ITEMS USE -P: NO handshaking! However, bank items are sent
and retrieved one item at a time. The -P (patch
number offset) is initialized to the Patch Min
value and is incremented for each subsequent SEND
or GET.
ROLAND RQ1 BULK: Use this method of communications for Roland
synths which return more than one sysex packet
when you send them one (1) GET command.
A CLOCK gadget has been added to the window for the purpose of
controlling the speed of the MIDI transmission. You can insert
a specified delay after a given number of MIDI bytes have been
transmitted.
